Beasts of May

Cringing with the needs and wants that seem to wish to be seen
No longer content to let the curtains lend them only suggestion
Of form while hiding the gleaming lust in their toothy grimace
They’ll wear you thin
When the friendly bits of dreams meet you on your walk
Or stare as you drive by in the bright of day
You have to stop questioning if you are as awake as you think
Or turn away from their invitations
The instinct is to resist and wearily watch for a catch
Can’t trust your night thoughts in the real world
So we are told, so we learn, and so we believe
That is just the way the real world wants it
Take the offer. Warmly and fully agree.
To the hope. The dare. The sin. The truth.
The knowing and being.
Want and love and trust.
Relax and howl. Pretty hungry prowling beasties.
